Te Whakarōpūtanga Kaitiaki Kura o Aotearoa - New Zealand School Boards Association (NZSBA) held their annual conference this month (always a highlight of my calendar) and I had the joy of sharing my top tips for wellness (whilst trying not to say the word 'wellbeing'!)
I was incredibly nervous after being moved from a workshop space to the main auditorium, but had the wonderful @Pio Terei to give me a pep talk before I hit the stage!
Busy school Board members are juggling many balls and don't need to be told to add something else to the to-do list. Finding health and energy needs to be simple and effective, and so I talked about mindset, nutrition wins, making movement fun, using technology to support sleep routines, and the importance of play, awe and fun.
We deserve to feel incredible, to have the energy we need to live the life we choose and to achieve our goals - that's why we're worthy of being invested in. Choosing to do things that fill your cup is an act of rebellion in a world that prioritizes productivity, consumerism, and fast, fast, fast.
Notice the beautiful things in your day
Get outside (and then do it again!)
Choose to focus on the good in your world
Prioritise nutrients
Schedule rest - and this needs to be nurturing, peaceful and calm (none of those 'active relaxer' excuses!)
Breathe
Move in a way that makes you feel good
Get a health coach, engage a financial advisor, invest in whatever it takes to reduce your stress levels.
Yeah, wellbeing is an awfully overused word that has connotations of tickboxes and another chore - but we can shift our health and energy levels significantly through little changes that set us up to be a well being!
